CAVB Continental Cup provides platform for African refs

CAVB currently has 12 International and Candidate Referees but it is hoped that this number will increase further in the coming months
Cairo, Egypt, April 18, 2012 – Just 20 months ago, Africa only had three international active referees at many tournaments. However five of the international officials that whistled at last weekend’s CAVB Men’s Beach Volleyball Continental Cup were all African, illustrating the rapid development the continent has made so far.

Referees Giovanni Bake (South Africa ), Hannington Nsubuga (Uganda), Hazem Sherbini (Egypt), Rodrgiue  Deuboue (Cameroon) and Ahmed Khalifa (Egypt) not only took charge of all matches at the Olympic qualifying event in Mauritius from last Friday to Sunday but also played an active role supporting other technical officials such as line judges and scorers.

CAVB currently has 12 International and Candidate Referees from Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Rwanda, Uganda & South Africa

Following the tournament it was agreed that all five will continue to assist African players by providing them with a better understanding and comprehension of the rules helping those who have been indoor players for many years.
