Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, December 3, 2011 – Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago booked tickets to the next round of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Continental Cup after reaching the finals of the NORCECA Women’s Inter Zonal Tournament.
Jamaica and Curacao, who will battle for third place in the Caribbean Zone, are also qualified to the third round of the competition against the top five countries of Central America. The fifth country will be decided between St. Kitts and Nevis and hosts Cayman Islands on Sunday.
Barbados’ Anthazia Mason and Shari Matthews who whipped Jamaica’s Nardrake Hutchinson and Cherie Thompson 2-0 (21-8, 21-11) in their first match then triumphed 15-12 in a golden set over Cheryl Daley and Cherine Richards.
Trinidadians Ayana Dyette and Elki Phillip claimed a 2-0 (21-12, 21-4) victory over Curacao’s Kionna Gregorius and Cristal Gregorius and then defeated Samira Luis and Christine Anthony 15-10 in a decisive golden set.
Jamaicans Daley/Richards sent their country to the match for third place following victories 2-0 (21-11, 21-13) over Cayman Islands’ Melissa Burrowes and Stefania Gandolfi and 15-9 against Cristin Alexander and Jennifer Bily.
Curacao’s Luis/Anthony recovered to score 2-0 (21-15, 21-13) and 15-6 victories over Brenda Allen and Shanicia Dyer of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Saturday’s results: CAY d LCA (2-1), SKN d ANT (2-1), BAR d JAM (2-1), TRI d CUR (2-1), JAM d CAY (2-1), CUR d SKN (2-1).
