Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, April 19, 2011 – The teams of Canada and Mexico whitewashed the opposition while moving up to the semifinals of NORCECA Men’s Central Zone Beach Volleyball Continental Cup in the Dominican Republic on Monday.
Canada will now play Puerto Rico while Mexico is pitted against Cuba in best-of-five series on Tuesday in the qualifying event towards the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Christian Redman and Ben Saxton of Canada-A, first grabbed a 21-16, 21-18 victory over Steve Vander Werp/Matt McKinney of USA and continued with a 21-16, 21-19 win over William Strickland and Matt McKinney of USA-B.
Martin Reader and Chaim Schalk of Canada-B scored 21-16, 21-15 and 21-16, 21-10 victories over Strickland/Wachtfogel and Vander Werp/McKinney respectively.
Mexican brothers Ulises and Lombardo Ontiveros first opened with a 21-11, 21-6 victory over Eduardo Concepcion and Francisco Abreu of Dominican Republic-B and then prevailed 21-17, 21-18 against Yewddy Perez/German Recio of Dominican Republic-A.
The experienced Mexican duo of Juan Virgen and Aldo Miramontes battled for a 21-19, 21-18 triumph over Perez/Recio and trounced Concepcion/Abreu 21-6, 21-6.
