Competition Format
The Continental Cup is composed by the following 3 phases: |
| - Sub-zonal Phase in 2010 |
- Country vs. country system
- Each country participates with 2 teams per gender.
- On the first day of competition, the team No.1 from each
country will play against the team No.2 of the other country.
On the second day of competition, the teams No.1 from each
country will play against each other, so will the teams No.2.
- 2 points for a victory, 1 for a defeat and 0 point for a
forfeit. In the case of a tie, there will be an extra set of
15 points between 1 team from each country, and each country
will be able to choose two players amongst the four enrolled
for this phase.

| - Zonal Phase |
- The five winning countries of the Sub-zonal Phase will
take part in the Zonal Phase.
- Round-robin tournament in one location
- A total of 40 games will be played over four days of
competition.
- The top four winning countries will qualify for the next
phase.
- The final ranking will be calculated according to the
total number of points obtained by the countries during the
games, with a win being worth 2 points, a defeat 1 point and
forfeiting 0 point.
- In the case of a tie between two countries, the following
criteria will be applied:
1. Greatest number of wins in
direct competition between the two countries; 2. Set
average in the direct competition between the two countries;
3. Average of points in the direct competition between the two
countries; 4. Set average amongst all the games in the
tournament; 5. Average points amongst all the games in the
tournament; 6. Raffle.
- In the case of a tie between three or more countries, the
criteria will be as per following:
1. Set average in the
games between the countries that are tied (other results will
not count); 2. Average points in the games between the
countries that are tied (other results will not count); 3.
Set average between all the games in the tournament; 4.
Average points between all the games in the tournament; 5.
Raffle.

| - Continental Cup Final in 2012 |
- The top four countries of the previous phase will compete.
- Each country participates with 2 teams per gender.

- A total of 24 games will be played over three days of
competition.
- The final ranking will be calculated according to the
total number of points obtained by the countries during the
games, with a win being worth 2 points, a defeat 1 point and
forfeiting 0 point.
- In the case of a tie between two countries, the following
criteria will be applied:
1. Greatest number of wins in
direct competition between the two countries; 2. Set
average in the direct competition between the two countries;
3. Average of points in the direct competition between the two
countries; 4. Set average amongst all the games in the
tournament; 5. Average points amongst all the games in the
tournament; 6. Raffle.
- In the case of a tie between three or more countries, the

- The country that wins this phase will automatically
qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
- Countries that have already obtained qualification will
compete in a bracket separated from those countries still
seeking a berth.
- The best ranked country qualifies for the FIVB Beach
Volleyball World Cup Final with a total prize pot of
US$300,000 per gender
- The best ranked country not yet qualified through the
World Ranking and qualified with less than two spots, moves
onto the 2012 Olympic Games.
- The two next best ranked countries not yet qualified for
the Olympics through the World Ranking qualify for the FIVB
World Cup Olympic Qualification.
