This will be the second weekend of action in the CEV Continental Beach Volleyball Cup following Russia's opening battle at home from July 24-25 |
Luxembourg, Luxembourg, September 3, 2010 – A total of six CEV Continental beach Volleyball Cup events are taking place across Europe this weekend as the new system for qualification to the London 2012 Olympic Games continues.
Following on from July’s opening events in Russia, tournaments for men and women in Malta, Slovenia and Ukraine.
Malta will welcome teams from Pool A to which include Switzerland, Denmark and Great Britain. Great Britain will be hoping that motivation to perform in front of home fans at the Olympics in two years time will carry them through to the next stage, but they are likely to face stiff competition from the Swiss sides in Mellieha.
Slovenia have the daunting task of welcoming Germany alongside Norway and Portugal to Zrece. The Germans have drafted in 2009 SWATCH FIVB World champions and Tour winners Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann as well as David Klemperer and Eric Koreng who finished fifth at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Meanwhile Norway travel with Iver Andreas Horrem, Tarjei Skarlund and Ingrid Torlen who all participated at the Olympics and have several top 10 rankings on the SWATCH FIVB World Tour.
Finally Ukraine will meet the Czech Republic, Poland and Croatia at home in Illichivsk and will hope home advantage will see them through a close group.
Men’s duos from Lithuania, Latvia and Russia all achieved qualification to the next round of the CEV Continental Cup on July 25 while Russia, Latvia and Bulgaria qualified in the women’s edition.
