AVC Beach Tour and Continental Cup Seminar outlines new steps in development

The AVC Beach Tour and Continental Cup Seminar concluded on Monday and outlined the new steps in development for beach volleyball in the region
Nanning, China, November 28, 2011 - The 2011 AVC Beach Tour & Continental Cup Seminar was held in China’s southern gateway of Nanning from November 25 to 28 as part of the Confederation’s strategic plan to aid tournament organizers and to train future AVC Beach Volleyball Technical Delegates.

The seminar took place prior to the launch of the Zonal Tournament of Eastern Asia, one of the second phases of the AVC Beach Volleyball Continental Cup. The top three teams from each zonal phase move onto the finals, where the winner will be granted a place at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

A total of 15 participants from 10 countries attended the seminar, illustrating another step forward for long term development through the AVC’s strategic planning of beach volleyball, with two seminars of this kind having already taken place in January in Bangkok, Thailand and Mt Tauranga, New Zealand.

Directed by AVC beach volleyball events director and coordinator Yu CAO alongside technical expertise from CEV Beach Commission member Laos Lukas and refereeing expert AVC Referee Delegate Kritsada Panaseri, the seminar was vital for AVC’s preparation for the zonal phase of the AVC Beach Volleyball Continental Cup.

Organizers of zonal phase from Western, Central, Eastern and Southeastern Asia attended the three-day meeting and were inspired by the prospective future of the sport in their regions. It featured two days of theory covering the areas on technical organization of a tournament and the role of AVC Delegates followed by one day of practical information on venue homologation. The seminar also outlined keynotes on the essence in promoting beach volleyball in AVC by transferring the knowledge on how to organize and officiate such sport to the participants.

“The seminar was highly successful in raising the organizational obligations of the hosting countries and threw light on the responsibilities of AVC Delegates for beach volleyball,” AVC executive director Liu Jun said. “There is certainly an enthusiasm throughout the AVC for the Continental Cup given the fact that 36 NFs participated in 10 Men’s and 10 Women’s Sub Zonal Tournaments and will continue their cruise in the zonal phase until Feb, 2012.”

Participants from Afghanistan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Korea, Mongolia, Philippines, Sri-Lanka, Thailand and UAE expressed their thanks to the AVC and the instructors of the seminar for the knowledge and experience they had during the seminar, which they believed will be useful in the future.

The Zonal Tournament of Western Asia was completed last week in Ajman, UAE while Thailand successfully hosted the Southeastern Asia in Cha-am Beach from November  25 to 27. The next zonal tournament will be held from November 30 to December 1 in Nanning of China followed by another two competitions scheduled for January 21 to 22,  2012 in Sri-Lanka and February 16 to 19 in New Zealand. The AVC Continental Cup Final will be staged in June with the participation of 16 NFs per gender including three NFs from each zone and the hosting country, which is yet to be decided.
