Seoul Challenger off to a flying start


Last year, Vanuatu’s Miller Elwin and Iatika Henriette took the title after beating Germany’s Geeske Banck and Kira Walkenhorst 2-0 (26-24, 23-21) in the final.

Seoul, Korea, July 4, 2013 – The Seoul Challenger competition is currently underway in South Korea’s capital city with the first match taking place between Haas-Hughes from the USA and Battaglene-Rohkamper from Australia on center court. After playing three sets lasting almost an hour, the American duo took their first win (21-17, 16-21, 15-13).

The competition will take place in a pool play format with 21 teams in the main draw. The second match of the day will see Germany’s Aulenbrock-Tillmann play against USA’s Beck-Hunkus.

Australia’s Sarah Battaglene and Johannah Rohkamper will also be taking part in the women’s competition after coming in third in this year’s National Tour Glenelg, Australia. The USA’s Heather Hughes will also play in the tournament, having also competed in last year’s edition.

The round of pool play will continue until tomorrow afternoon, right after which the second phase of elimination (round of 16) will commence with the top two ranked teams of each pool, advancing. This year’s total prize money is USD 50,000.
