Conde and Baracetti claim Argentina title

Mariano Baracetti and Martin Conde delivered for their home fans
by claiming the Argentina Beach Volleyball Satellite Event in
Mar del Plata, the opening tournament of the 2004 season, with a
stunning straight sets 21-17, 21-19 win over the brothers from
Switzerland Paul and Martin Laciga on Sunday. The three day
$15,000 tournament was played in superb conditions in front of
generous crowds and it was fitting that the local fans were
rewarded when the 2001 world champions lifted the title after 44
minutes of stunning Beach Volleyball action in the final.

Top seeds through to semifinals

del Plata, Argentina, January 24, 2004 - The two favourites for
the Argentine Satellite event in Mar del Plata, local team
Mariano Baracetti and Martin Conde and the Switzerland pair of
Paul and Martin Laciga, both booked their spots in Sunday's
semifinals after two well worked victories in Round 3 and 4 on
Saturday. After being pushed to three sets in their opening
match on Friday, Baracetti and Conde recorded two
two-set victories, 21-11, 21-9 over their compatriots
Wenceslao Frascaroli and Hernan Rojas and a courageous
26-24, 21-15 over the tough Italian duo of Fabio Galli
and Riccardo Fenili in front of a passionate local crowd.
Against the Italians a tight first set was followed by
an easier second and it took the 2001 world champions 49
minutes to seal their semifinal spot.

del Plata, January 23, 2004 - Home favourites Mariano Baracetti
and Martin Conde opened their account at the Argentina Men's
Satellite tournament on Friday with a hard fought 2-1 (21-23,
21-15, 15-6) victory over their compatriots Fabio Pérez - Facundo Palavecino. In fantastic conditions at the beach complex
"Balneário 24" de Punta Mogotes the 2001 world champions had to
show all their class to come back from a set down before
claiming victory in front of a passionate crowd 2,000 strong.
"This tournament is as tough as we thought," Baracetti
said. "Despite our performance today we still hope we
can make it through to Sunday's final".

conference of the 2004 Beach Volleyball season was completed on
Thursday in Argentina on the eve of the first tournament of the
year, the Men's Argentinean Satellite tournament on the lovely
beaches of Mar del Plata. With over 600,000 inhabitants the
bustling city of Mar del Plata, on the northern Atlantic
coast 400 km away from the capital city Buenos Aires,
will play host to three days of fantastic Beach
Volleyball action with local and international stars in
attendance.

Men's Argentinean Satellite

14, 2004 - With just over a week to go the bustling Argentine city of
Mar del Plata plays host to the first Beach Volleyball event of
the 2004 season with a men's Satellite event from January 23-25,
2004, in what is destined to be an entertainment feast. Situated
on the northern Atlantic coast, 400km from Buenos Aires, the
beaches in the area of Mar del Plata sprawl for 8km. And with
just over 500,000 inhabitants, Mar del Plata is an exuberant and
attractive city, flavoured with the gentle drama of a sweeping
coastline and hilly terrain.
