Swiss Life International Tournament
Tournament comes to a successful
close
August
18, 2003 - Two Swiss teams on the podium, an Italian team second
and a Norwegian team in fourth position made for a successful
European campaign at the Swiss Life International Beach Volley
Tournament in Lausanne, Switzerland at the end of last week. The
whole tournament was seen as a success with the crowd, the
biggest ever, enjoying the various animations, the two
exhibition matches and the very strong level of athletes from
five different continents.

duo knock Norwegians out of finals contention

Lausanne, August 17, 2003 - Italian duo Fabio Galli and Ricardo
Fenili pulled off a surprise straight sets victory over
top-ranked Norwegians Jorre Kjemperud and Vegard Hoidalen in the
semifinal of the Swiss Life Satellite tournament and now meet
Swiss duo Stefan Kobel and Patrick Heuscher who defeated
compatriots Sasha Heyer and Markus Egger in the second

Local teams shape up well at home tournament
Vidy
and Bellerive, Lausanne, Switzerland – August 16, 2003 – More
than 1200 spectators braved hot summer weather to flock to the
flocked to these “beaches” on the shores of Lake Geneva on
Saturday to see top international Beach Volleyball action on the
second Main Draw day of the FIVB Swisslife Satellite tournament.
Swiss duo Sascha Heyer and Markus Egger had to fight off
a surprise challenge by a young Russian team of Tenembaum and
Barsouk in their quarterfinal match who drove them to a tough
2-0 (28-26, 21-18) quarterfinal match where every point was
hotly disputed.

Top seeds through unscathed on opening Main Draw day
Vidy,
Switzerland, Aug 15, 2003 - Top seeded favorites Vegard Hoidalen
and Jorre Kjemperud of Norway rocked through their opening
encounters without conceding a set on Friday, the opening day of
the Main draw of the Swiss Life FIVB Satellite Beach Volleyball
tournament here on the beautiful Lake Geneva.
Swiss pair Stefan Kobel and Patrick Heuscher were hot on their
heels, thundering through their matches unbeaten. Kobel and
Heuscher finished third in the recent Swatch-FIVB World Tour
Grand Slam in Klagenfurt, Austria, their best finish at a Grand
Slam.
Also through unscathed were Norwegians Tarjei Skarlund Jarle
Huseby who on Saturday face a tough encounter with Brazilians
Luizao and Klepper. The Brazilian duo also delivered a great
performance but were surprised by Slovakia's power play of
Michal Litva and Radoslav (Rado) Dvorsky who pushed then to
three sets before allowing them a 2-1 (19-21, 21-14, 15-13)
victory.

Main draw teams confirmed

Switzerland, August 14 - In the brutal world of country
quota play offs nine Swiss teams battled it out for
three spots in the main draw, which starts on Friday, of
the Swiss Life International Tournament in Lausanne on
Thursday.
