Swiss
Life International
Beach Volleyball Tournament
Satellite FIVB Men, Lausanne, Switzerland, 2003
August
15th, 16th and 17th, 2003, at
the Vidy-Coubertin beach and Bellerive
The
true spirit of Beach Volleyball is captured in this
three-day tournament (Click here
for timetable), which has been a highlight on the
Swiss sporting calendar for the past 13 years as it's
reputation of a fun, entertaining and well supported
event on the shores of Lake Geneva, increases every
year. In a stunning location only minutes from the IOC
in Lausanne, the Swiss Life International Beach
Volleyball tournament encapsulates the Olympic
philosophy - the joy found in effort, the educational
value of good example and respect for universal
fundamental ethical principles - making it a must-see
event for young and old.

Already
local celebrities, including members of the Alingi
team, have registered their interest in the tournament
by signing up to take part in the two exhibition
matches, which are sprinkled among the more
"serious" matches. But just because the
Vidy-Coubertin beach is nestled between Lake Geneva
and the lush green grass of Bellerive, don't be fooled
into thinking that this tournament is a walk in the
park. 2002 World Tour champions Baracetti and Conde
from Argentina conquered all last year and 2003, with
prize money of US$17,000 and FIVB ranking points up
for grabs, promises to host another star-studded
lineup.
Not only is there three action packed days of top
class Volleyball but this tournament will also be a
crucial stage in the process of teams who are striving
for the 2004 Olympics. After a day of qualification
the tournament eight teams will join the 22 directly
entered teams plus two Wild Cards to complete the
32-team Main Draw.
And
you can take part as well. On Saturday August 16, a
new Volleyball initiative called Park Volley is open
for everyone to enjoy where teams of four play in four
different categories - Women aged 17 and under, Women
Open, Men or mixed aged 17 and under and Men or mixed
Open. The rules are simpler than standard Volleyball
and intended for everyone's participation from 9am to
5pm.
