Spain, 8
July - The beautiful island of Gran Canaria, part of the Canary Islands group, famous for its sparkling blue water, sand dunes and abundant marine life, hosted, for the first time, a leg of the Womens World Tour. Over 10,000 spectators packed the stadium and enjoyed the perfect weather and spectacular action.
The final was to be a repeat of the previous weekend in Gstaad, Switzerland with Brazils Adriana Behar-Shelda defeating USAs Youngs-Fontana in the final 2-0 (21-16, 21-16).
Sandra Pires-Minello (BRA) took third place 2-0 (21-15, 21-18) against the Czech pair and 15th seeds, Celbova-Dosoudilova.
Playing in only their first ever World Tour finals round, Celbova and Dosoudilova had to battle through the loser's bracket after their second match loss to Youngs-Fontana. They then won four consecutive matches against Tian Jia-Wang Fei (CHN), Walsh-May (USA), Chi-Xiong (CHN) and then Larrea Peraza-Fernandez Grosset (CUB) to make the final four.
