Ricardo/Loiola take tight final against Laciga brothers

Espinho - 29 July - Winning the first set of the final 21:11, it looked as if Praia da Baia, Espinho would be the place for a long overdue World Tour win for the Swiss pairing of Paul and Martin Laciga. But the packed stadium was to see the Brazilian team of Ricardo/Loiola fight back to take the second set 21:17, setting up a classic third-set decider.

The Swiss tasted their first win with a match point at 14-13, but the Brazilians saved the point and then had four match points themselves. A successful attack from Jose Loiola gave the 19th point and the victory to the Brazilians.

The 3rd/4th playoff was another tight and exciting match with the Canadian team of Holden/Leinemann, ranked twenty in the world ranking, making the world number one ranked Brazilians earn every point. But in the end Emanuel/Tande held their composure, taking third place 2-1 (27:25, 18:21 and 15:08).
