FIVB Women's FIVB Satellite Pomeranka Cup 2008 to be played in Gdansk

Gdansk
hosts its first Satellite event after organising two consecutive
national circuit tournaments in 2006 and 2007.
The success of the Pomeranka Opens the previous two years bodes well for
the FIVB Satellite Pomeranka Cup 2008 that is set to take place July
25-27.
The event will follow the double-gender SWATCH FIVB World Tour event in
Stare Jablonki, Poland, in June and precedes the Myslowice SWATCH
women’s event in September.
There will be US$15,000 Prize Money up for grabs at the Satellite event,
with 16 teams in the qualifying round and 16 teams in the main draw. |

Gdansk
is easily accessible from any large city in Poland by plane, train or bus. The
1,000-year-old city packs in a lot of monuments. Most are near the heart of the
Old Town district around Dluga Street, streets parallel to this one and the
quayside (Dlugie Pobrzeze).
Most tourist routes start at the Upland Gate (Brama Wyzynna) and the
King’s Road stretching beyond it, go through Torture Tower (Katawonia), into the
museum of amber, the Golden Gate (Zlota Brama) and The Court of the Society of
St. George (Dwor Bractwa Swietego Jerzego).
Dluga Street is the main road in the town and is surrounded by
beautifully renovated 16th and 17th century houses. One of
them is the Uphagen’s House (Dom Uphagena), which houses the Gdanks history
museum. |
All the
beautiful buildings of Gdansk are overshadowed, however, by the
monumental Town Hall (Ratusz Glownego Miasta). The symbol of Gdansk –
the Neptune Fountain – can be seen nearby in the Market Square (Dlugi
Targ). Behind it is the beautiful Court of Artus (Dwor Artusa) and
the New House of the Court with The Lady from the Window and the amazing
Golden House (Zlota Kamienniczka).
Market Square leads towards the Green Gate (Zielona Brama) and then
along the quayside to the Crane (Zuraw) and St. Mary’s Gate (Brama
Mariacka), which reveals a street of the same name, considered to be one
of the most beautiful in Europe, leading to Poland’s biggest church, St.
Mary’s (Bazylika Mariacka). |
