Third-straight FIVB Women's Challenger event to take place in Geroskipou

July 30 to August 2, 2008

The third FIVB Challenger event in Geroskipou, Paphos, will be held from July 30 to August 2.

The US$30,000 women’s event will have qualification on the first day and main-draw action on the next two days.

There will be 32 teams in the qualification round and 24 teams in the main draw.

In 2007, Katrin Holtwick and Ilka Semmler of Germany clinched the title ahead of Brazilian pair Antonelli and Leao. The Netherlands’ Marleen Van Iersel and Maloes Wesselink finished third.

The previous year, Hana Klapalova and Tereza Petrova of the Czech Republic took gold, with Belgium’s Liesbeth Mouha and Liesbet Van Breedam picking up silver and Katie and Tracy Lindquist grabbing bronze.

Cyprus is a modern country and the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.  Its 9,251 square kilometres (3,572 square miles) encompass citrus and olive groves, pine forested mountains, and some of Europe's cleanest beaches.
