Blackpool, the United Kingdom's leading beach resort, will become a major sport
venue in September when European level Women's Beach Volleyball comes to the UK
for the first time.

Beach Volleyball is the main focus
of a strategy to reposition Blackpool as a venue for high quality beach sport
events.
The tournament on September 14 and 15 will set the scene for major international
beach volleyball events in 2008 and beyond.
Great Britain's Denise Johns and Lucy Boulton with Zara Dampney and Shauna Mullins
will be taking on invited teams from Europe including The Netherlands,
Switzerland and Spain for the US$4,000 first prize.
The tournament will be the
first in the UK to have its finals played under floodlights to coincide with the
resort's famous Illuminations.
There will be a 1,000 seat stadium with VIP
enclosure and the event will be televised.
Admission tickets are free and the audience will be treated to fire acts and
dancers plus a grandstand view of the World Fireworks Championships which take
place on the 14th.
