Korea to host women’s Beach Volleyball exhibition event
The
FIVB is pleased to announce a new addition to the calendar of exhibition
events in Beach Volleyball with a tournament to be held in the capital,
Seoul. The “Hi Seoul Hangang 2006 Women’s Beach Volleyball Exhibition”
carries a strong USD 44,000 purse and is open to international teams
subject to a maximum quota of two teams per country. A maximum of 16
teams will participate in the competition (including two Korean teams),
which will be played in a double elimination format that gives the
losers from the first eight matches a second chance to make the final
four.
To ensure excellent
participation in the event, the Korea Volleyball Assocation (KVA) is
graciously offering to cover the round-trip airfare of the competitors,
as well as their accommodation, full board and internal transportation
for the duration of the event. An attractive first prize of USD 10,000 beckons for the winning team. Korea hosted three FIVB
women’s Open tournaments from 1995-97 and the best place by a local team
was in 1996, when Kyung-Hee Ji/Sung-Min Kim placed 9th and
Sun-Jin Ju/Mi-Sook Kim 13th.
