|Lausanne, Switzerland, August 8, 2004 - A powerful attack with extraordinary defense led top-seeded Pedro Cunha and Fred Souza of Brazil to the the Tornoi International de Lausanne, a Satellite stop on the 2004 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour.
Cunha, the 2001 and 2003 under 21 champion and the winner of the SWATCH stop in Puerto Rico earlier this season, and Fred scored a 21-16 and 21-13 win over 14th-seeded David Wenger and Philip Gabathuler of Switzerland to capture the $2,500 first-place prize.
For Cunha, "this was a great tournament, very well organized. It was my first satellite and a good result for us. We were playing together for the first time. It was very important for us to have the support from all the Brazilians who came to cheer for us. There was a great atmosphere here today."
In the bronze medal match, second-seeded Pedro Grael Brazão and Marcelo Duarte of Brazil defeated sixth-seeded Tino Schütz and Jan Schnider 21-13 and 21-18.
