Lausanne, Olympic Capital
Lausanne stands above Lake Geneva (the biggest lake in
central Europe) and spreads among the vineyards, fir
forests and the rolling countryside. Smallest of
Switzerland's biggest towns in the heart of Europe,
Lausanne is a town of human proportions with a cordial
atmosphere. It offers all the services of a tertiary
capital, big & successful enterprises and especially a
vast selection of hotels of all categories with a
total capacity of over 5'000 beds.
This small European metropolis was needed to host the
Headquarters of the Olympic Movement. Apart from the
head office of the IOC, there is also the famous
Olympic Museum, as well as the head office of 17
international sports federations, including the
International Volleyball Federation.
Easy access
Lausanne is easy to reach from anywhere – by road (the
A1/E25 an A9/E27 motorways), by railway (both the
Swiss Federal Railway network and the TGV Paris-Milan
line) or by plane (just 60 km from Geneva-Cointrin
International Airport).
A city with a mild climate
