Cattolica, Italy, July 24, 2004 - Top-seeded Pedro Brazao and Marcello Duarte scored their fifth-straight win of the competition here Saturday to capture the San Marino Satellite event on the SWATCH-FIVB World Tour.
The Brazilians won both of their matches Sunday, including a 15-21, 23-21 and 15-9 win in 61 minutes over fifth-seedeed Fosco Cicola and Andrea Raffaelli of Italy to share the $2,000 first-place prize. Brazao and Duarte advanced to the finals with a 21-19 and 25-23 semi-final win over the sixth-seeded Tabarini brothers (Alfredo and Francesco) of San Marino in 47 minutes. Cicola and Raffaelli, who split $1,000 for second-place, advanced to the finals with a win over second-seeded Martin Engvik and Ole Martin Kleivenes of Norway (21-12, 17-21, 15-12). In the bronze medal match, Tabarini and Tabarini defeated the Norwegians 15-21, 21-17 and 15-12. |
