The
beautiful sands of Carolina in Puerto Rico welcomes the
Swatch-FIVB World Tour back after a eight year absence
when the men’s circuit arrives in town on June 9.
Formerly known as the ‘World Series’ the Swatch-FIVB
World Tour was held in beautiful Puerto Rico in 1994,
’95 and ’96 with the exotic city of Carolina playing
host to both the men and women’s Beach Volleyball
circuits.
With an abundance of beautiful beaches, Carolina, which
is only minutes from Puerto Rico’s capital San
Juan, will undoubtedly prove a fine host once again and
there is certain to be some excellent Beach Volleyball
action on display with a total prize package of $180,000
on offer.
Carolina,
referred to as Tierra de Gigantes (Land of Giants)
because the tallest occupant who resided there, one
Felipe Birriel, was a colossal 239 cm tall, is a rapidly
growing city and with a population of 186,000 it is of
huge importance to Puerto Rico in terms of tourism. With
272 miles of coastline, Carolina offers the visitor
plenty of activities such as boating, fishing,
snorkeling, and scuba diving.
Images of colourful coral reef, swaying palm trees,
relaxing sailing trips and cavernous caves abound in
Carolina, it is truly a dream location and one that is
perfect for the men’s Beach Volleyball stars of today to
display their wares.
