Beach Volleyball World
Championships to be televised in more than 100 countries
Lausanne, Switzerland,
September 26, 2003 – The 2003 Beach Volleyball World
Championships presented by SWATCH, the flagship
tournament on the SWATCH-FIVB World Tour will be a
television hit by being broadcast in more than 100
countries, the FIVB announced from its Swiss
headquarters.
The
championships (October 7-19) are to be played on
arguably the world’s most famous beach – Copacabana, in
Rio de Janeiro and will feature the crème de la crème of
the sport’s professionals. The matches will reach
millions of viewers in all five continents and is the
most comprehensive television coverage ever for this
event.
“The 2003 World Championships are another milestone in
Beach Volleyball’s impressive history. We expect a
marvellous show from the best players from all over the
world as they contest the titles at this fabulous
location,” said Angelo Squeo, FIVB’s Beach Volleyball
Coordinator.
Through the Pan European broadcaster Eurosport, fans in
54 countries will see more than 20 hours of coverage
while a number of major European terrestrial channels
will also broadcast the event. In addition, live,
delayed, highlights and news footage is to be broadcast
in all five continents, while Brazil’s host broadcaster
TV Globo will have extensive coverage for their domestic
market.
Eurosport
executives have expressed enthusiasm for the
championship of this sport that has caught the
imagination of millions of European fans.
