Lausanne, Switzerland, February 23, 2005 - Just two months after the tragic events at the end of December, Thailand is taking up a tremendous challenge. From 24 to 27 February in Bangkok, the FIVB will hold its first international sports event of the season, the Mazda FIVB Beach Volleyball Women's Satellite.
Taking part in this ambitious competition in the heart of Thailand's capital city are no less than 14 women's teams from 9 different countries - Thailand, naturally, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and also Australia, England, Italy and the United States. Thailand and China even have 3 different teams each lined up.
Everyone is looking forward to this event in Bangkok, since Beach Volleyball will bring a great deal of joy and passion to the city. The 2'500-seat stadium is situated in the city centre so there will be a lot of excitement in store.
In this country, which is so courageously getting back on its feet after a calamitous natural catastrophe, the social aspect of Beach Volleyball should not be underestimated. Bangkok's population will show its guests once more its spirit of hospitality and sportsmanship during these long-awaited competitions." |
