LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND, September 5, 2008 - Beach Volleyball pairs from Brazil, the Czech Republic, Germany and Norway netted SWATCH FIVB World Tour “final four” berths Friday at international Beach Volleyball events for men and women in Mallorca and Poland, respectively. With the 2008 SWATCH-FIVB Junior World Championships by Nivea Sun for players under the age of 21 being staged this week in Brighton, England, the SWATCH FIVB World Tour continued at two sites Friday with Myslowice hosting the women in Poland and the Mediterranean island of Mallorca staging a men stop with each tournament featuring US$175,000 in prize money. Brighton, England, September 5, 2008 - Two teams with gold medal credentials are headed towards a meeting at the 2008 SWATCH-FIVB Junior World Championships presented by Nivea Sun for players under the age of 21 after winning a pair of matches each here Friday. Second-seeded Francesco Giontella and Paolo Nicolai of Italy, the defending SWATCH-FIVB Junior World champions, and 17th-seeded Michal Kadziola and Jakub Szalankiewicz of Poland, the 2007 SWATCH-FIVB Youth World champions for players under the age of 19, finished pool play matches Friday with 3-0 records to gain the top two spots in Saturday’s opening elimination rounds. Brighton, England, September 5, 2008 - Led by Becchara Palmer/Alice Rohkamper of Australia and Marleen Van Iersel/Daniëlle Remmers of the Netherlands, 16 women’s teams advancing here Friday to the single-elimination phase at the SWATCH-FIVB Junior World Championships by Nivea Sun for players under the age of 21. Only 10 of the tandems advancing to the elimination rounds were seeded among the top 16 teams in the 2008 SWATCH-FIVB Junior World Championships presented as the first two days of the Main Draw schedule featured pool play at the Nivea Sun Yellowave, the first permanent beach sports venue in the United Kingdom. Brighton, England, September 4, 2008 - A women’s team from Brazil has won the gold medal at the last four SWATCH FIVB Junior World Championships for players under the age of 21 and Amanda Maltez and Natasha Paula Borges hope to continue the streak for the South American country. Seeded second in the 24-team Main Draw at the 2008 SWATCH FIVB Junior World Championships presented by Nivea Sun, Amanda Maltez and Natasha won a pair of matches here Thursday over teams from the Netherlands and Austria to put the Brazilians in position to win their pool while being guaranteed a spot in Saturday’s opening single-elimination round.
